White Cloud Sage

Leucophyllum frutescens ‘White Cloud’

White Cloud Texas Sage
Shrubs

A white-flowering form of Texas sage with soft gray foliage. After summer rains and humid spells it covers itself in white blooms, a cooler alternative to the usual purple. Like other Texas sages, it is tough, heat-loving and low-water.

Living with it in the Phoenix Valley

Watering

Follow the shrub schedule in our Landscape Care guide while it establishes. After that, keep it lean: it needs little supplemental water. Overwatering leads to leggy growth, fewer blooms and root rot.

Pruning

It looks and flowers best when grown naturally. Give it room to reach full size. If it needs shaping, thin selectively in spring instead of shearing into tight forms.

Bloom timing

Flowering follows humidity. Expect several flushes from monsoon season into fall.

How our designers use it

Cool color palettes

White flowers and gray leaves suit modern, minimal and white-themed gardens.

Mixed sage screens

We blend it with purple-flowering sages so the screen blooms in two colors.

Hot exposures

It thrives along west walls, driveways and street edges with full sun.

Good to know

Around the pool

Light leaf and flower drop after bloom flushes. Bees visit while it flowers, so we keep it a few feet back from the water.
